Currently, just under 320,000 people call the South Bend region home. So what makes the area such a great place to live? Here are the top seven reasons.
The Revitalization Of Downtown
The city of South Bend has made some large investments into downtown. Over the next year there are plans to put over $200 million into the local economy. Projects like the Studebaker Lofts, East Bank Flats and Berlin Flats are sure to bring more traffic to the area. You can read about these projects and more here.
South Bend Is A Great Place To Grow A Business
There's recently been a spark in South Bend. And things only seem to be trending upwards. While living in New York, my husband and I decided that South Bend is where we wanted to plant our roots. A large factor in this decision was the opportunity we saw in the area. We decided it was time to start our own business and South Bend was the perfect place to do so.
The Strong Sense Of Community
The South Bend region is the perfect size. The area has lots to offer without being spread too far out. And there never seems to be too much traffic. The city is making great efforts to make the community even more tightly knit. Events like the Best Week Ever are sure to bring people together.
There's Always Something To Do
Whether you need something to for the weekend, or are seeking an activity for the entire family, there's always something happening in the Bend. If you haven't yet had the chance, make it a priority to attend a Notre Dame home football game. The atmosphere is electric - there's nothing quite like it. Middle of winter? Try taking the family ice skating at the Compton. Looking for a place to get together with the gals? Perfect, there are a number of locally owned restaurants around the area!
South Bend is just a short drive from a number of big cities. In just under two hours, you can be in Chicago. Rather not drive? You can take the train from the South Bend Airport to Millennium Station. Plans are currently underway to get you there in 90 minutes. Indianapolis is about two and a half hours. Looking for a beach in the summer? Just head 36 miles north to St. Joseph, MI.
Now I realize that this sounds crazy, but if you are looking for somewhere with all four seasons, South Bend is the place for you. The weather in the summer is very enjoyable, and nothing beats the crisp fall South Bend air. And sure, it can get cold during the winter months, but there's something so special about a white, snowy Christmas.
Overall, the South Bend region is a great place to live. And there's no better time than now! So whether you find yourself looking to relocate to a city with a more affordable cost of living or a place to raise the kids, South Bend is a great place to call home.
